Confusion Studios has released MIDI Designer Pro X v10.11.0, adding the single most-requested feature in the app’s 14-year history: AUv3 support. MDPx has long been the reference tool for building custom MIDI controller layouts on iOS — knobs, sliders, XY pads, buttons, and more, wired to any MIDI target. But until now it could only run as a standalone app, which meant switching out of your host to interact with it and losing the layout context when moving between projects. That changes with v10.11.0.
What’s New in v10.11.0
- AUv3 Plugin Support: Load MDPx directly inside AUM, Loopy Pro, Cubasis, and any other AUv3-compatible host. Build your custom controller layout once, set up MIDI routing once, and have it travel with your session automatically. MIDI generated inside the plugin routes to other plugins in the host and onward to wherever the host can reach
- Korean Language Support: Soft-launched in this version — early access for feedback
- Multiple bug fixes and performance improvements
The AUv3 integration fixes the core production workflow problem with MDPx: layouts were never project-aware in standalone mode. You would build a complex controller surface for a specific session — mapping synth parameters, effects sends, and tempo controls — but reopening that project required manually relaunching MDPx and loading the correct layout bank. Now the layout is embedded in the host project file and reloads automatically. MIDI routing from within an AUv3 instance is also more stable than Inter-App Audio or background MIDI was in practice, particularly on sessions running multiple synths simultaneously.
MDPx has accumulated over 320 community-built layouts covering more than 70 manufacturers — Roland, Moog, Chase Bliss, and a wide range of software DAWs and plugins — through more than 80 updates since the original MIDI Designer Pro launched in 2012. The feature set includes Ableton Link and Link Control Loopers, Supercontrols and subcontrols with no scripting required, Live Transpose, Group Presets, Popup Panels, Accelerometer control, and Streambyter integration for advanced MIDI transformation. The app runs on iPhone, iPad, and Mac. Free to download with optional in-app purchases to expand functionality; a Premium subscription with lifetime option is available.
