Octaves by AudioThing

The plugin splits the audio spectrum into octave spreads with a retro-scientific approach that echoes BBC Radiophonic Workshop and WDR electronic music studios. It staysfaithful to the original hardware while adding modern controls such as mix and soft saturation. The original hardware could pop and click when switching modes, so AudioThing kept that behavior as a creative effect — the filter can be pinged for percussive results

You can “open up” the effect via the back panel for impedance adjustments that act as resonance control or you can use it as a filter bank. An oversampling option up to 16x cleans up artifacts or adds subtle tone shaping when desired. The interface is clean and resizable with brightness and contrast controls, on iPad and iPhone. It works as an AUv3 plugin inside AUM and runs standalone and as IAA too.

Key features:

  • Passive bandpass filter modeled on Brüel & Kjaer 1613
  • 10 + 1 octave-spread bands (switchable to thirds) with per-band volume
  • Mix and soft saturation for creative overdrive
  • Artefacts control turns original pop/click into a pinging/percussive effect
  • Back-panel impedance (resonance) adjustments
  • Filterbank mode
  • Oversampling up to 16x
  • Preset system with randomizer

App price: $3.99 (intro pricing; regular $6.99).
