Rob Jackson released GRDelay, a randomised delay effect that employs a granular synthesis method to generate sound. Up to 16 stereo grains are created in realtime from delayed input audio copies, with controls for grain shape and delay time. Options include pitch-shifting grains up an octave and cascading output from one grain to another. Shape, delay time, and pitch-shifting can be randomised for unusual effects and textures. While capable of sounds similar to pitch-shifted delays or shimmer effects, the design is original and sonically unique. GRDelay is not suited for tempo-synced rhythmic delays; PolyDelay is recommended for that purpose.
GRDelay operates as a standalone app or AUv3 plugin, compatible with hosts like AUM. It supports iOS and macOS, priced at $1.99 with no in-app purchases. The app focuses on creating ambient soundscapes and experimental textures in electronic production workflows.
