VAPolyLead anchors its sound around a VCF modeled on the Sallen-Key filters found in classic 1970s monophonic synthesizers. Three oscillators per voice route into resonant high-pass and low-pass filters to produce biting leads, thick basses, and dense polyphonic textures. The 3-channel analog-style step sequencer is the workflow differentiator here — it encourages hands-on pattern creation rather than static chord playing, and the three independent channels let you build complex rhythmic and melodic relationships between parts. The introductory price of $5.99 runs until May 31, after which the price increases to $14.99.

The interface provides direct access to ADSR envelopes, five LFOs, and a multi-effects section with delay, chorus, flanger, reverb, EQ, and compressor. The UI can feel dense on a smaller iPhone screen, but the layout stays logical and a four-option color scheme (black, navy, gray, steel) helps with visibility. Under heavier polyphony loads, older devices hit CPU limits — the developer recommends an A13 Fusion chip or Apple Silicon for stable operation, which is worth checking before purchase. In Cubasis and AUM, VAPolyLead behaves predictably as an AUv3 instrument with full MIDI 2.0 support. Ableton Link keeps the step sequencer locked to session tempo, and iCloud Drive syncs patches between iPad and Mac.
