Bram Bos released Battlestation Groovebox, a self-contained workstation designed for quick DAW-less EDM jamming. It combines an analog-style drum machine, three synthesizers, a full mixer, and various effects/utilities, all accessible from one screen for starting a groove in under 60 seconds. The app incorporates traditional groovebox elements with generative sequencers inspired by modular Turing machines for evolving patterns, plus MIDI in/out, separate outputs per instrument (when used as AUv3), and individual MIDI channel routing.
It functions as both a standalone app and AUv3 plugin, with support for preset management, memory slots, and performance tweaks. The lightweight design (under 8MB) ensures low CPU usage, making it suitable for extended sessions on iPad (recommended), iPhone, or Mac. Recent updates added features like crash cymbal enable/disable, scale visibility, MIDI fixes, and memory indicators. Ideal for electronic producers seeking immediate inspiration and integration into larger setups.
