Nikolozi has released Mela version 7.5, bringing a brand-new MIDI Echo module and a host of refinements that make the already powerful modular system even more expressive and reliable.
Main new features in v7.5:
- New MIDI Echo module โ repeats incoming MIDI events with custom feedback path, up to 16 repeats, tempo or seconds-based timing, and creative panic action
- Mod Steps: Retri g renamed to Trigger with new step-on note-on behaviour in Step mode
- MIDI Delay: Redesigned UI, Mode renamed to Sync, added 1/64 and 1/128 tempo-synced options
- MIDI Channel: Now uses a dial instead of pop-up list
- Signal Indicators: Updated to match Digital Delayโs clip indicator style
- Factory Presets: New โEuclid Sequencerโ preset added to Parts group
- Various stability fixes and preset handling improvements
The v7.4 update centers on creative modulation and sequencing. Mod Steps delivers a 16-step sequencer modulator with start/length modulation, retrig options, and cycle controls that freeze or evolve patterns on the fly. Three Mod Steps paired with Note Pulse instantly build a full note sequencer, and the new โPartsโ preset group gives producers ready-to-drop building blocks. List parameters now update live during adjustment, modulation feels even across index values, and several small bugs disappear for smoother sessions.
Key new features in v7.4
- Mod Steps module โ 16-step sequencer modulator with start/length modulation, retrig, cycles, and per-step modulation
- Note Pulse + Mod Steps integration for instant note sequencers โข New โPartsโ factory preset group with drag-and-drop building blocks
- โPulserโ MIDI preset and updated โDrone 1โ / โRM Resonatorsโ pads
- CC Modulator now lives under Modulator category โข Live dial/slider updates and even modulation response on list parameters
The v7.3 update transforms workflow by letting you drag presets directly into your current patch as fully functional modules, preserving nested structure, parameter values, and modulation routing. This makes it incredibly easy to move complex setups between presets or build larger patches from existing designs. Note Pulse and Note Event have also been enhanced for velocity-based control, turning them into reliable building blocks for step sequencers and note generators. Additional refinements include automatic Voice Activity resizing, smarter modulator target views, and better polyphony handling.
Mela remains one of the most flexible modular music-making apps on iOS and macOS. You build fully custom polyphonic synthesizers, unique audio effects, and complex MIDI processors by arranging modules on lanes, with audio and MIDI signals freely routed via internal buses or to the host. The intuitive lane-based system scales from simple instruments to deep generative setups, and the growing library of over 100 modules keeps expanding with every update. It runs as a standalone app or as a full-featured AUv3 instrument, effect, or MIDI processor inside hosts like Logic Pro for iPad, AUM, GarageBand, Drambo, or Cubasis.
What keeps Mela feeling special is how quickly you can go from idea to polished sound. The touch-optimized interface, undo/redo, remote views, and regular meaningful updates make it equally rewarding for beginners exploring modular synthesis and experienced sound designers pushing creative boundaries. Whether youโre sketching a new synth patch on the couch or building an elaborate live performance rig, Mela gives you the depth of a desktop modular system with the immediacy of iPad.
Key features include:
- Preset reuse as modules with full structure and modulation preservation
